Career development

To ensure Canada's public health workforce is equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills—and to help practitioners train for a specialization in public health—the Public Health Agency of Canada provides opportunities for professional development, training and continuous learning.

Strengthen your core competencies for public health

Skills Online offers web-based continuing education opportunities for frontline practitioners across Canada, helping them develop and strengthen the skills needed to meet the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada.

Field epidemiology training

Through placements at public health departments across the country, Canadian Field Epidemiology Program participants master the competencies required to respond to urgent public health issues of local, national or international concern.

Public health officer placements

The Canadian Public Health Service (CPHS) enhances Canada's public health capacity by helping practitioners become qualified public health officers (PHOs) and by placing those PHOs in jurisdictions across Canada to respond to both routine and emerging public health needs, including outbreaks of pandemic influenza.
